It’s 4 am. I come to the windows to see who’s that walking down the street at that time when there’s -22 degrees Celsius outside. An old man drags a bogie with bags and a jerrycan. He’s in a hurry because it’s really cold out there. But he can’t move fast with his cargo. He minces pulling his bogie as hard as he can and disappears around the corner.
When you see such scenes you can not withstand to compare yourself to people you have seen. I look at the old man and think I’m a happy person here in a warm room of my newly rebuilt house. I have everything I need and I have people who love me. That’s why I’m looking outside a window from my cosy room instead of walking down the street in a freezing wind at 4 am.
And what about this man? It’s obvious why this old rascal is out there at night. Not because he wants to build a new house and not because he wants to be successful. If you asked him he would probably tell you that he just wants to live. That’s why he is sneaking through the town while others fell asleep. That’s why he seeks for every tiny opportunity to hold on his most precious – ability to live.
His gold is no longer worthy to us who don’t just want to live but want the life to be comfortable.
It’s not what was our main goal at the days of our childhood when all we wanted was just seize the day. And now our life is more about entertainment and comfort than about connection with the world and joy of living.
Is it really worth it? And shouldn’t there be some kind of happy mean?
